History of Padel
Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis, squash, and badminton.
Invented by Enrique Corcuera, the first padel club started in Marbella in 1974. It didn’t take long for the sport to take off in Spain, which remains the professional host of the World Padel Tour.
Padel came to the United States in 1993, when the first court was built in a luxury hotel in Houston, Texas. Since then, the sport has steadily grown, and over the past 10 years, padel has begun to spread even more rapidly
Now played by 10 million players, Padel is the fastest growing sport in the world!
The Court
Padel is played on an enclosed court about 25% smaller than a tennis court. A net divides the court into two sides, where opposing teams face each other. The glass walls at the back and sides of the court can be played off, similar to squash.
The Sport
Fun and easy to learn, padel is a perfect game for all ages! The game is generally played by pairs and beings with an underhanded serve. Once a ball bounces off the ground, it can be played again before the second bounce. Scoring is the same as tennis, but unlike tennis, padel players can also use the windows of the court to return the ball.
This fast-paced and action-packed game is continuing to grow in the U.S. If you are interested in a padel court for your facility or residence, contact us to discuss your options!
