Indoor courts come with many benefits – including the ability to practice in any type of weather. While an indoor court doesn’t face the outdoor elements, it does require some upkeep for optimal use.
Court surfaces are designed to offer years of playing with low-maintenance upkeep. However, like any investment, the better care you take of your court, the longer it will last. Follow these basic maintenance tips to keep your court looking and performing its best.
Cleaning Routine
Indoor courts require a regular cleaning routine. Your cleaning schedule depends heavily on how much your court is used. For heavy use of multi-purpose courts, plan to clean every day. For courts that are used less frequently, clean one to three times a week.
While cleaning, be sure to:
- Immediately clean and dry any spills.
- Sweep the entire court surface daily with a large microfiber dust mop.
- Remove sneaker scuff marks and any other residue on the surface of the court. A rag or soft putty knife can remove residue.
- Mop the floor with a cleaner approved by your court contractor. Not all cleaners are suitable for court surfaces.
Court Maintenance
Aside from cleaning, some court maintenance is essential for keeping your court in top shape. While some of this maintenance can be completed by the owner of the court, other things are best done by your contractor.
- Keep HVAC systems up to date for optimal comfort, while keeping air filtered.
- Encourage the use of gym shoes, as street shoes can track in dirt and grit, which can scratch the surface of your court.
- Do not use tape, household cleaners, or power scrubbers that use water.
- Replace netting and hoops as needed.
- Touch up line paint and logos as needed.
With proper care, you can keep an indoor court looking like new for years!
