May is National Tennis Month, and today we are highlighting important funding opportunities that have kept the game strong in 2020 and 2021. The past year created setbacks in nearly every industry due to the wide-reaching effects of COVID-19.
Many sports were hit hard due to the difficulty of meeting social distancing and mask requirements. Last April, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) acted quickly to get the tennis industry the support it needed.
Growing the Game
The USTA is the national governing board for the sport of tennis and an industry-recognized leader in promoting the sport at every level. Last year, in order to combat the setbacks caused by COVID, the USTA established the Tennis Industry United commission and the “Growing the Game” grant.
The “Growing the Game” grant has infused $50 million into the tennis economy and helped 6.7 million new and returning players engage in the sport they love in 2020.
The USTA plans to continue aiding the tennis industry in 2021 with new grants aimed at the acquisition of new players. This additional funding will specifically try to grow tennis at the local level by encouraging community tennis organizations to recruit new players with entry-level programs for any age group. This campaign will run from May to November 2021.
If you love tennis and want to help, please spread the word so local tennis organizations can get the help they need! For more information or to apply for funding, click here.
