To install a sports court is a big investment, and getting the most out of your investment starts before you even break ground.
To make sure you are able to avoid common mistakes when installing your new surface, we’ve created this list of do’s and don’ts for installation.
DO: Research what type of court best suits your needs.
Before you reach out to a contractor, make sure you do some preliminary research to determine what kind of court will best suit your needs. Is a single-sport court the best option, or would you get more use out of a multi-sport court? During this phase, you’ll also want to determine how much space you will need for your court.
DON’T: Rely on DIY Video Instructions
As tempting as it might be to rely on YouTube DIY videos for instructions, this is not a reliable way to install a court. The video may just show one side of an installation and fail to cover important steps or warning signs. In addition, DIY videos won’t be able to cover issues a contractor knows how to handle, including site measurements, permits, and more.
DO: Find an Experienced Contractor
An experienced installer can handle all aspects of court installation from start to finish. They should be able to identify any potential problems and provide solutions.
The court installer may have access to materials that are not available locally, which can give you an advantage when it comes time for the installation process. They will also know how your new court is supposed to look after completion so there won’t be any surprises by the end of the project.
DON’T: Forget About Design
Before installation begins, review your court design with your contractor to ensure it meets your expectations. This will prevent any issues from arising later on in the process.
You’ll have several options when it comes to design, including materials used, court colors, and accessories you want installed. Your contractor will be able to walk you through all your options. If you have a specific vision in mind or photos of courts you want to emulate, make sure you share those with your contractor. The last thing anyone wants is to finish the installation and for it not to look like they had originally imagined!
