History
Historically the oldest tennis championship in the world, the US Open was first established in 1881 as a national men’s competition. The championship expanded to a women’s bracket in 1887 and implemented mixed doubles in 1892.
Since 1978, the US Open has been played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, on hard acrylic courts creating fast play and intense matches to watch. This is home to the largest tennis stadium in the world equipped with 20 indoor courts and a seating capacity of 23,771 spectators.
